I happened to have 8GB of RAM, an old AMD Athlon X2 machine, and 7 Western Digital Caviar Green 1 TB drives to spare. I did not, however, have a CD drive, so I was stuck installing purely using the ISO and USB drives. You are going to need an internal SD card (a fast one) and if you want to do it the easy way, use an external CDRom. Throw out the raid cards and get a JBOD (might work with setting drives as JBOD, I don't recall). You will boot to the CD and install to the SD card. Don't bother trying to install to any other drive or a USB stick. Click ON and a pop-up menu shows the FreeNAS ® system as a backup option. In our example, it is listed as backup_user1 on “freenas”. Highlight the FreeNAS ® system and click Use Backup Disk. A connection bar opens and prompts for the user account’s password–in this example, the password that was set for the user1 account. Dec 11, 2014 · The UI was confusing in 9.2.1.x, and probably will be, to a lesser extent, until FreeNAS 10.1 is released (about a year from now). My perception is that the devs, while not interested in flashy noob-friendly interfaces, are interested in improving the interfaces and making them easier to use for somewhat experienced users. I am setting up a FreeNAS box, running on my LAN which will be hosting photos and documents, which I would like to keep safe (will back up to the cloud). I would like to share the files on my LAN using NFSv4 with Kerberos authentication, as want to control access to the files on a user level
